ENGLISH FOR BUSINESS PURPOSES

 

 It is no secret that a person’s desire to complete tasks and jobs in the easiest possible manner had become a common problem in the society. Being a student, there is even a higher chance for this desire to exist, as more often than not, we are flooded with works and assignments to be completed and with the scarce of time, we are bow to be tempted onto copying other people’s work and ideas to finish our task. However, these actions are often labeled as cheating and this is why in this module, we are being thought about the importance of Academic Integrity. There are several factors on why Academic Integrity is vital for us.

 

        Academic Integrity teaches us that all tasks assigned should be done by the student’s individual efforts and not by copying other people’s work. It also allows us to avoid cheating and plagiarism to occur during our course of study. For example, we are thought on how to use referencing to acknowledge the original source of information in which we had taken into our assignment so that we will not be accused of plagiarizing.

 

            Besides, I came to learn that by applying referencing in our assignment, it would not only help avoid plagiarism but also changed the way we conduct our assignments. For instance, after learning the Harvard System of Referencing, I was assigned with my first assignment for this module and I realized that how big an impact it had given to my writing styles. With the inclusion of in-text citation, the writing styles in my essay had become more professional as in my argued points are now being backed-up by professional sources. In the meantime, I have learned how to do proper Harvard Referencing style in this assignment whereby I do not have the opportunity to learn during my foundation studies.

 

            In addition, it is also vital to adhere to the rule of Academic Integrity because it allows teaching and learning to be conducted in an honest manner. It is unethical to steal other people’s idea and thus education institutes should practice academic integrity so that fairness could be existed in the world of learning.

 

            Also, Academic Integrity can be applied in our studies to aid our understanding of the subject. For instance, when we are paraphrasing other people’s idea, we actually go more in-depth of what it is being thought and we tend to learn more in this way. Furthermore, Academic Integrity will still have a role to play even in my working life in the future. Just imagine in the future, when we are working and it is time for us to give our professional opinion, we would not want students at that time to come and steal our ideas; so with Academic Integrity, these issues can be avoided.

 

            All in all, the importance of Academic Integrity is unquestionable as it enables fairness, honesty and trust to exist in the society.
