BUSINESS COMMUNICATION
The Business Communication module prepares us to take on the challenge of basic communication in the business world. One of the most interesting encounters during the course of study on this module would be the business report assignment assigned to us. It was a group work and a lot of valuable experience had been gained throughout the process of making the report.
We were required to interview a manager of a company and make a research on the company. However, there were a few challenges that we faced before actually getting to interview a designated manager. Firstly, choosing a suitable company to be conducted was not easy as factors such as the location, type of business and size of the company were considered. We then decided to choose a small restaurant located in Kelana Jaya as our place of research. However, we did not proceed with our initial plan because we realize that choosing a shop, in which the manager is someone we do not know was not as easy as first thought as we failed to get mutual agreement upon us. To solve this problem, one of our group members then started to ask around his pool of connection to find a company’s manager that we know and at the same time, suits our research topic. It was then we found Mr. Joshua, the CEO of JoshiJosh Café and Catering and thus the reason why we chose to use this company as our topic of research.
Not long after, my group members and I arranged an interview with the CEO. The time and date of the interview were set only to found out that the manager could not make it at the very last minute. We then agreed on a date the following week and the interview were conducted smoothly. It was a great experience interviewing a businessman that had so much experience and knowledge on issues in the real business world and all of us were really glad that we had this opportunity. Some of the issues thought were how to manage time, cost and inventories efficiently and of course, our assignment topic scope such as the various communication methods used internally and externally in a company and the company’s marketing strategies.
After conducting the interview, it was time to start the making of the report. We delegated our works and then compile those works once we finish. Another problem was then encountered after compiling the report, which is the different writing style of each of our members. This does not come as a surprised since different students will have their own different writing styles. Hence, to overcome this, all of us gathered and tried to change our writing style to match a single style of writing.
All in all, the process on making the business report was a great learning experience for all of us. Through this report involvement, we learnt how to do things correctly and efficiently. For instance, a lot of time would have been spared if we find a suitable company from the beginning of the research. Hence, all of us were delighted that we were given this opportunity as valuable lessons had been gained during the course of the report.
